Pinterest Ads data model and metrics available in ASK BOSCO®

Your Pinterest data comes in two models:

  • Pinterest Ads: Ad Group covers all your Pinterest spend, including catalogue sales (shopping) campaigns. Use it for total spend, checkouts, revenue and ROAS.
  • Pinterest Ads: Ad covers non-catalogue campaigns only, at ad level. Use it for creative questions, such as which ads, Pins or formats perform best. Catalogue sales campaigns don't have ads in Pinterest's reporting, so they aren't included here.

Calculated metrics

These are worked out from the totals for whatever you're looking at, so they're always accurate at campaign, ad group or ad level. In the Ad model, they use the Non-catalogue cost and checkout metrics.

  • CTR (Click-through Rate): Pin Clicks divided by Impressions.
  • CPC (Cost per Click): Cost divided by Pin Clicks.
  • CPM (Cost per Mille): Cost per 1,000 Impressions.
  • Conversion Rate: Click-through Checkouts divided by all Pin Clicks (paid plus earned).
  • ROAS (Return on Ad Spend): Checkout Value divided by Cost. Use the Ad Group model for your overall Pinterest ROAS; the Ad model gives ROAS by ad, Pin or creative type.
  • Cost per Checkout (CPA): Cost divided by Checkouts.

Good to know

  • Checkouts depend on the attribution window. Each window is a different way of counting the same checkouts, so look at one window at a time and never add windows together. By default, ASK BOSCO® uses Pinterest's own default (30-day click, 1-day view).
  • Recent checkouts are still coming in. Checkouts are dated on the day of the ad interaction, so the last 30 days keep growing. For recent periods, ASK BOSCO® uses the purchase-date window, which dates checkouts on the day they happened.
  • Cost, impressions, clicks and engagements don't change with the attribution window.
  • View-through Checkouts are already included in Checkouts, so don't add them on top.
  • Paid vs earned: Impressions, clicks and engagements are paid only. Earned figures come from people saving and sharing your promoted Pins and aren't billed. Pinterest's own totals are paid plus earned.
  • 'Removed campaign', 'Removed ad group' and 'Removed ad' names are items Pinterest no longer lists. Their spend and checkouts are real and are included in your totals.
