ASK BOSCO® AI Studio - Quick Start Guide

ASK BOSCO® AI Studio is an AI-powered dashboard builder that turns natural language prompts into interactive dashboards, helping you create, refine, and customize reporting in minutes rather than hours. This guide explains where to find AI Studio, how it differs from AI Analyst, how to build and refine your first dashboard, and what to know about saving, sharing, and data limitations.

AI Studio: Quick Start in 8 Steps

  1. Find it - go to Reporting then AI Studio in the top nav, or click the three dots on any dashboard you can edit and select Edit.
  2. Name it - and give it a name that makes sense to you.
  3. Give it context - describe your role, the channel, and the metrics you want, e.g. "I'm an account manager in paid search, I want a campaign-level dashboard using ROAS, AOV, and CTR, plus a cost trend line."
  4. Pick your data source - if AI Studio offers a few options, choose by number, or tell it to use more than one.
  5. Start small, then build - don't try to describe everything at once; add filters, metrics, and chart changes conversationally as you go.
  6. Refine in plain English - ask for date range fixes, colour changes, or chart-type swaps the same way you'd ask a colleague.
  7. Save it - AI Studio won't autosave or warn you before you navigate away, so click Save before you leave the page.
  8. Share it - it's private until you share it; give view-only or full access to your team or client.

1. Where to find AI Studio

AI Studio sits in two places:

  1. In the top navigation, under Reporting. AI Analyst now has its own spot in the top navigation, and AI Studio has taken its place in the Reporting menu.
  2. Inside any dashboard you have edit permissions for. Click the three dots in the top right corner, select Edit, and AI Studio will appear alongside your usual editing options.

You can also start a brand-new dashboard straight from the All Reports screen by clicking Create Report, then building it with AI Studio.

2. AI Studio vs AI Analyst - What's the difference?

AI Analyst helps you discover the answer. AI Studio helps you package it.

AI Analyst AI Studio
Purpose Ask questions Build dashboards
Style Exploratory Intentional
Starting point Conversation first Dashboard first
Outcome Find an insight Create a reusable view
Use case One-off investigation Saved analysis
Feels like Talking to an analyst Having a BI developer sitting beside you

In practice: AI Analyst is for "I have a question" - for example, "Why did conversions drop yesterday?" You get an answer through conversation, and while you can pin individual visualizations to a dashboard, the conversation itself isn't something you keep and reuse.

AI Studio is for "I know the dashboard I want" - for example, "I always need a dashboard showing Spend, Clicks, CPA, and ROAS by campaign, with date filters." You describe it, AI Studio builds it, you tweak and save it, then share it - and it's there to revisit every week from then on.

AI Studio generates a strong first draft. You retain full control to edit, customize, and share the finished dashboard

AI Studio builds the first draft, you build the final dashboard.

3. Building your first dashboard

Open AI Studio and give your dashboard a name

A chat panel will appear on the right-hand side of the screen. This is where the conversation happens. You can collapse it at any time to make styling changes elsewhere, and reopen it by clicking AI Studio again.

Give it context. The more context you provide up front, the better the first draft. For example:

"I am an account manager in paid search and want a dashboard for my at a campaign level, using ROAS, AOV, and CTR. Also add a line graph of cost by campaign, for paid search."

Naming your role, the channel, and the specific metrics you care about all help AI Studio understand what you're after - including which data source to draw from.

Be iterative. It's tempting to describe everything you want in one long prompt, but starting with the core of what you need and building from there conversationally tends to get you to the right result faster.

A shorter first prompt means fewer assumptions are made, that you'll later need to unpick

4. Choosing the right data source

Once you send a prompt, unless you have specified the data set. AI Studio contextualizes your question and reviews the data sources available to your account, ranking them by relevance to what you've asked for. You can then choose which one(s) you want to work with.

It's worth getting familiar with what data sets exist and how they're structured, because AI Studio's relevancy ranking is based only on your prompt - it doesn't know, for instance, that a broader data set might give you more scope for the metrics you'll want later. If several data sets are offered, simply tell AI Studio which one to use by number.

You're not limited to one data source per dashboard. AI Studio can pull from multiple data sets and create separate visualizations from each within the same dashboard - for example, one from Shopify Sales and another from Shopify Products.

5. Refining and styling your dashboard

Once your first draft is built, keep the conversation going. Anything you can do manually in Edit mode - changing a chart type, slicing by a different field, adding a filter or metric, adjusting the date range - you can also ask for conversationally, and AI Studio will make the change for you.

A few examples that work well:

  • "Please start the data at 01/01/2025."
  • "Please give all the KPI charts a blue background."
  • "Please replace all visualizations using [data set A] with [data set B]."

Larger changes, like swapping out a data source across the whole dashboard, take a little longer to process — you'll see a working indicator while it deletes and rebuilds the relevant visualizations. You don't need to wait around; you can keep the conversation going once it's finished.

On styling, AI Studio can apply colour to specific elements like chart lines and KPI tiles, but it currently works from a defined palette rather than full bespoke branding across the whole dashboard.

Report Builder hasn't gone anywhere — it's still there for manual, click-and-build dashboard creation, and all your existing grouping, styling, tab, and filter options remain available alongside AI Studio. AI Studio is additional, not a replacement.

6. Saving and sharing your dashboard

Always click Save. This is the one habit worth building early — AI Studio doesn't currently autosave or warn you before you navigate away, so if you leave the page without saving, your work won't be kept.

Once saved, your dashboard is private by default — visible only to you. From there, you can:

  • Share it with anyone who has access to that client or account, including giving view-only access
  • Make a copy
  • Download it as a PDF

This works exactly the same way as sharing does elsewhere in ASK BOSCO®.

7. Data granularity and limitations

AI Studio can build day-on-day, week-on-week, month-on-month, and year-on-year comparisons — including custom week-commencing or month-commencing definitions — provided the underlying data is collected at that granularity.

Most paid media data updates daily, however some data sources are only collected monthly at source (Search Console and other SEO data being a common example). If a comparison isn't available, it's worth checking whether that's a limitation of the source data itself before assuming it's a limitation of AI Studio.

If you're ever unsure what metrics, measures, or attributes are available within a given data set, contact the team@askbosco.io and we can help.
